October Path

Poetry By, J. M. Lilin

Can you not imagine how wonderful it must be to be Autumn?

To own that name and be the wonderful season that spreads the land.

Spring has an organized fresh start.

While summer may bring the sun and tiny white daisies.

Winter brings ice and stiffness, but autumn has a certain different taste.

Oh, the Autumn sun warming us with knitted sweaters.

Summer roses gone away and leaving us to be with the crisp, warm colors.

A harvest moon over pumpkin patches and wide grins.

Endless tufts of wind filled to the brim with the scent of comfort.

A fox crowned with fire, warming the hearts around.

Diamond shapes have fallen in red and orange, going away from their mothers.

Coming about the paved paths, at our feet, strewn down and dancing.

Bidding farewell, as they make their way down the October path.

  3. Jade, this is so lovely. You’ve described autumn so warmly and cosily. This phrase I love so much “A fox crowned with fire” – such original wording, and brings to mind a blaze of rust-red hair/fur against a foresty backdrop. So nice! Also: “Diamond shapes have fallen in red and orange” – again so lovely and unique. A sweet fall treat. 🧡🍂🔆

  4. I’m glad so many people are so happy about autumn, but these days, it just brings a sense of foreboding to me. I had problems a while back with water getting into the house during winter rains, and autumn just means all that is coming. Last year it stayed dry, but this year there is also a sense of disappointment for me because I missed out on a lot of my usual summer fun because of COVID and now summer is gone.

However, the weather around here still tends to feel like Summer Junior until around November 1. Late September and early October are probably the best weather where I live. So at least there’s that, until it starts raining…

  5. Well, just try to look away from those negative elements. It is hard, that’s for sure but focusing on those elements and looking towards that won’t make you feel better. Everything has to eventually pass. We all have chapters in life. Autumn may be wonderful for me and not for you but that can just mean a difficult chapter in my life will be coming up soon and your life will get easier.
