Forest Boy

How can you fall in love with what is not real?

I must ask the stars what they think of this sensation.

It is hard to navigate with a compass that has gone off course.

Thinking of the boy I met in the forest.

A million days before and a million miles from here.

Ask him what his name was, and he would change it every time.

Eyes green like the pines, eyes reflecting like the pond.

He goes where he wants to be and becomes whichever melody he pleases.

He is steady like the elder but as free as the sky itself.

I want to run away but he always stop me at the edge.

He became the forest to save a soul.

Forest boy has no family because he is infinite as space.

Pausing with each beating turn the planet takes.

Gentle when he closes the door and still when he falls.

Transfiguring himself into a form of peace in mind.

Forest boy and I have become so close and so far.

  6. Goodness. I love this. Fantasy meets poetry. Great ending. Love these lines: “It is hard to navigate with a compass that has gone off course.”; “He goes where he wants to be and becomes whichever melody he pleases.”; “Ask him what his name was, and he would change it every time.” This really is an outstanding piece!

Thank you so much for such kind, thorough feedback. This was a pleasure to write and used the concept of an imaginary friend I used to dream about when I was younger. I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Thanks again, Benjamin.
