Jar Of Stars

He was dark, like a fire of shadows.

Such closed in words that held such a snowstorm.

So many weather conditions and so many oceans.

Eyes like a sky without stars.

He was the one not meant to win.

He was no hero.

He was meant to be alone for the rest of his life.

Yet, did they ever stop to ask him?

Ask him how he fell into such a desolated and unknown desert.

Ask him why he held onto nothing but webs that wouldn’t be swept away.

Ever stop to ask him, did they, to wonder why he would wear the mask?

The cloak that swept others away.

He was no villain.

He was a lonely man.

Desperate for someone to hold his hand and pull him out of the basement.

The basement that he never built.

The basement that kept him chained up unless he found help.

He was dark, like a fire of shadows.

Such closed in words that held such a snowstorm.

So many weather conditions and so many oceans.

Eyes like a sky without stars.

Except it was all for a reason.

If only they could have thought to give him his own jar of stars.

  4. This title instantly got my attention. I’m so envious of these abstract lines: “He was dark, like a fire of shadows.” And: “Eyes like a sky without stars.” This is some wonderful words you’ve left here!

  5. “He was dark, like a fire of shadows.” Wow!!!! What a beautiful line. Also the line about “like a sky without stars.” My mom used to say that. Nice imagery!!

  6. Oh it wasn’t *by* my mother per se. And actually now I think of it she used “like a *night* without stars.” :)) But yes it triggered a lovely memory. Maybe I’ll write a post about it sometime. Thanks again. :))
